Variations of oxygen isotopic compositions of silicate spherules collected from Antarctic blue ice

چکیده
Introduction: Recent works suggest that unmelted, phillosilicate-bearing micrometeorites and hydrous interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) collected at stratosphere are related to hydrated carbonaceous chondrites [1], [2], which are supposed to be derived from C-, P-, D-, or T-type asteroids [3, 4]. Anhydrous IDPs are supposed to be cometary origin because of their high D/H ratios and characteristic mineralogy that are distinct from any meteorites [5]. It is difficult to clarify precursor materials of melted cosmic spherule, because of loss of their original mineralogy due to severe heating during atmospheric entry. Oxygen isotopic signature is useful for identification of planetary materials [6]. In order to clarify the precursor of cosmic spherules, we analyzed oxygen isotopes of individual 37 cosmic spherules with an ion probe. Part of this work was briefly reported in [7], here we report a series of results in detail.

Lead isotopic compositions in the EPICA Dome C ice core and Southern Hemisphere Potential Source Areas
A record of Pb isotopic compositions and Pb and Ba concentrations are presented for the EPICA Dome C ice core covering the past 220 ky, indicating the characteristics of dust and volcanic Pb deposition in central East Antarctica. Lead isotopic compositions are also reported in a suite of soil and loess samples from the Southern Hemisphere (Australia, Southern Africa, Southern South America, New...
متن کاملA menagerie of graphite morphologies in the Acapulco meteorite with diverse carbon and nitrogen isotopic signatures: implications for the evolution history of acapulcoite meteorites
Morphologies, petrographic settings and carbon and nitrogen isotopic compositions of graphites in the Acapulco meteorite, the latter determined by secondary ionization mass spectrometry, are reported. Seven different graphite morphologies were recognized, the majority of which occur enclosed exclusively in kamacite. Individual graphite grains also rarely occur in the silicate matrix. Kamacite r...
متن کاملRelevance of silicon isotopes to Si-nutrient utilization and Si-source assessment in Antarctic waters
[1] We analyzed dSi of dissolved silicate for eight water column profiles across the Southern Ocean (south of Australia in spring 2001) from the Seasonal Ice Zone (SIZ) north to the Subantarctic Zone (SAZ), including the first isotopic compositions measured for Si-depleted seawaters. All profiles display mixed layer enrichments in heavy Si isotopes relative to deep water in accordance with pref...
متن کاملPresolar isotopic and chemical signatures in hibonite-bearing refractory inclusions from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite
Magnesium-, calcium-, and titanium-isotopic compositions, as well as trace-element abundances, have been determined by ion microprobe mass spectrometry for 37 hibonite-bearing inclusions from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite. These and previously analyzed hibonite-bearing inclusions can be divided into three main groups based on morphological and mineralogical criteria. PLAty Crystal fragme...
متن کاملEast Antarctic ice core sulfur isotope measurements over a complete glacial-interglacial cycle
[1] Both sulfur and oxygen isotopes of sulfate preserved in ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica have provided information on the relative sources of sulfate in the ice and their chemical transformation pathways in the atmosphere over various time periods. The mass-independent fractionation in the oxygen isotopes of sulfate from the Vostok ice core from east Antarctica suggests that gas-phas...
